Hai Friends,

Today we are going to explore the rendering Arena. Before that I assume that u will be having a basic knowledge of 3ds Max and its Mental Ray Rendering. In fact if we are using 3ds Max as our tool, its very much easy to Render the Occlusion pass alone, lets see how.

  • First Set the Scene, and use Mental Ray as you Rendering Engine

Open the Material Editor and Select one Empty slot; we are going to use a Mental ray material for our purpose. From the 'Standard' button access Mental ray Material as I shown below

After getting the desired Material, we are going to use a very powerful utility supplied by Mental ray, the Ambient/Occlusion Material. Actually its very easy, I will show you how...

Apply the Ambient/Occlusion Material to the 'Surface' of our Mental ray material. After that u will get a property window for editing the Occlusion parameters like the one I shown below

Not much values to edit, only the 'Samples' matters, more number of samples means more quality for your rendering, we can go for 300 here.

Next thing is applying the Created Material to the Rendering, let's see how.

Open the Rendering Menu by pressing F10, from the 'Processing' tab, access the Material Override button. In the meantime open the 'Material Editor' also. From the material Editor, drag the newly created Mr Material to the Material Override button…You are done. Now Render your scene and see the Mr Occlusion in its full bloom…

Have a great day….

This is the final result I get…
